Dental Implant Process

Dental Implants Process in Carnforth – A Permanent Solution for Missing Teeth

If you’ve lost a tooth—or multiple teeth—dental implants offer a permanent, secure, and natural-looking solution. At Viva Dental in Carnforth, Lancashire, we provide high-quality implant dentistry to restore your smile, bite function, and confidence without compromising surrounding teeth.

Unlike traditional bridges or dentures, dental implants are fixed directly into the jawbone, offering a strong and stable foundation for a replacement tooth or teeth. They do not shift or slip when eating or speaking, and they don’t require healthy neighbouring teeth to be filed down or adjusted.

FAQ's

  • The entire process can take anywhere from a few months to a year. The surgery itself typically takes about an hour or 2, but the healing process can take several months. During this time, the implant fuses with the jawbone in a process called osseointegration. Our dentist will attach an abutment and crown to complete the restoration. This final step may require multiple appointments and adjustments to ensure a proper fit and function of the dental implant.

  • Our dentist will need to determine the quality and density of your jawbone, as well as identify any potential issues. If the jawbone lacks sufficient density or has deteriorated over time, a bone graft may be necessary to strengthen and augment the area.

  • In some instances, extracting a tooth may be necessary to create enough space for the implant or to remove a damaged or infected tooth. However, not all patients require tooth extraction before getting a dental implant. Our dentist will thoroughly examine your teeth and gums to determine whether any extractions are necessary.

  • There are two types of dental implants, and Viva Dental Carnforth are proud to offer:

    Endosteal Dental Implants

These implants are surgically implanted directly into the jawbone to create a stable tooth base. Once the surrounding gum tissue has healed, a second surgery is required to connect a post to the original base implant, and an artificial tooth (or teeth) is attached to the post. This can be done individually, if replacing one tooth, or as grouped on a bridge or denture for consecutive replacement.

    Subperiosteal Dentures

These implants consist of a metal frame that is fitted onto the jawbone just below the tissue of the gum. The frame, which has posts already attached to it, fixes to the jawbone as the gums heal around the post protrusions. As with endosteal implants the artificial tooth, or teeth, is then mounted to the posts.

  • This depends largely on the quality and quantity of the underlying bone, as well as the location of the implant. But generally, osseointegration can take anywhere from 3 to 6 months to complete.

  • Once the abutments are prepared, an impression is taken to create a mould of the teeth. This mould is then sent to a dental laboratory where the permanent crowns are custom-made to fit your mouth.

Excellent

“My experience today with Dr. Lorna Sabetti was excellent. I have had a terrible experience from another practice in the past. Dr. Sabetti and her assistant looked after me completely. I felt at ease, I was included me in every step of the procedure. There was no rushing and I was given breaks to ease my jaw.”
